GRANDPA WAS AN ENGINEER
David C. Lanham worked for " The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway" and "The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad" was presented a certificate for retirement in recognition of 43 years of faithful service.

David trained on the old steam locomotives and then went to diesel. He had to learn every working piece on the old steam engine, we are told, and it took him three years to study for the test. His career started out as a fireman and then moved up to engineer.

He is in the "Society For The Preservation of The Memory Of Steam Locomotives And The Men Who Ran Them". His certificate says, " All engineers, otherwise known as "Eagle Eyes," "Fog Busters," "Jackrappers," and "Hog Heads" are directed to extend to the holders of this certificate, all courtesies in this life and in the hereafter. (Please see below) On the back is stamped: Lew A Hager, Special Representative, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
He was an honest man and lived at the cutting edge of his time.
